Consumer prices in Montenegro rise 3.4% in April, driven by higher costs in food, housing and healthcare

Consumer goods and services prices, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), were, on average, 3.4% higher in April compared to the same month last year, according to data from Monstat.

In April, consumer prices increased by 0.8% compared to March.

“The main contributors to the monthly inflation rate were price increases in the categories of vegetables, clothing, fruit, pharmaceutical products, actual rents paid by tenants for primary residences, meat, restaurants, cafes, shoes, and other footwear,” the statement said.

From January to April, compared to the same period last year, consumer prices were, on average, 2.9% higher.

When looking at the main groups of products and services by consumption purpose, in April, compared to the previous month, increases were recorded in the groups of health (3.1%), clothing and footwear (3%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.4%), restaurants and hotels (1.3%), recreation and culture, and other goods and services (0.6%), furniture, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (0.4%), and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (0.3%).

A decline in prices was recorded in the transport category (1.4%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1%), and communications (0.1%), as reported by Mina business.

The prices of other products and services did not change significantly.
