Montenegro has made significant progress in EU accession chapters 14 (Transport Policy) and 21 (Trans-European Networks), with the country nearing the fulfillment of closing benchmarks. This was confirmed during a meeting between Montenegro’s Minister of Transport, Maja Vukićević, and Magda Kopczyńska, Director for Mobility and Transport at the European Commission.
The discussion, held in Belgrade during the Transport Community Ministerial Meeting, focused on Montenegro’s EU integration efforts in the transport sector. Vukićević highlighted that the country is actively working on final legal and regulatory reforms in road transport and railway safety. She also noted the strengthening of administrative capacities for managing EU funds, which is essential for implementing infrastructure projects within the TEN-T network.
Kopczyńska welcomed Montenegro’s efforts and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to providing technical and financial support, particularly through the IPA and the Western Balkans Investment Framework.
Both sides praised the strong cooperation within the Transport Community and emphasized Montenegro’s serious commitment to aligning with EU standards. Vukićević expressed confidence that integration in the transport sector will further accelerate in the coming months.
