Montenegro is entering a new investment cycle in the energy sector, announced Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović, highlighting opportunities for international partners to participate.
Šahmanović emphasized that recent events in Europe and Montenegro’s own experiences show the urgency of energy security, which is no longer just a long-term vision but an immediate necessity. Delays in modernizing and building new energy infrastructure pose increasing risks to the economy and citizens.
During a meeting with Slovak Ambassador Boris Gandel, Šahmanović welcomed Slovakia’s interest in investing in Montenegro’s energy sector and noted the importance of expert and investment cooperation.
He also pointed out that the experiences and challenges faced by EU member states provide valuable guidance for Montenegro and the Western Balkans in planning and implementing the green transition. Unlike EU countries, which have developed these processes over two decades with more stable public finances, Montenegro must meet ambitious green agenda goals in a much shorter timeframe, requiring faster and smarter action.
Šahmanović stressed Montenegro’s commitment as a reliable partner to European institutions, especially the Energy Community, working on aligning legislation with EU standards and advancing concrete projects.
He concluded that the upcoming period will be more dynamic, with new legal frameworks aimed at attracting serious investors focusing on renewable energy, alongside prioritizing modernization of transmission and distribution networks and construction of new capacity.
