Montenegro’s foreign trade rises 2.7% in early 2025, but export declines

Montenegro’s total foreign trade in goods reached 660.2 million euros in the first two months of the year, marking a 2.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from Monstat.

Monstat reported that exports totaled 96.9 million euros, reflecting a 10.3 percent decline compared to the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, imports increased by 5.3 percent to reach 563.3 million euros.

Export-to-import coverage stood at 17.2 percent, down from 20.2 percent recorded in the same period last year.

In the export structure, the most significant category was mineral fuels and lubricants, amounting to 33.2 million euros, primarily driven by electricity exports valued at 29.2 million euros.

On the import side, machinery and transport equipment dominated, totaling 144.4 million euros, with road vehicles accounting for 61.8 million euros.

Montenegro’s top export partners were Serbia with 22.2 million euros, Slovenia with 14.5 million euros, and Switzerland with 11.3 million euros.

The leading import partners were Serbia with 91.4 million euros, China with 76.5 million euros, and Germany with 57.3 million euros.

The majority of Montenegro’s foreign trade was conducted with members of the Central European Free Trade Agreement and the European Union.
