The Mayor of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, stated that they received assurances that the agreement with the UAE will not be included in the agenda of the Parliament. This came after a meeting with the President of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić.
Nimanbegu explained that they had requested that the agreement not be discussed at today’s parliamentary session, and received a commitment that it would not be. He emphasized that their objections are based on legal grounds, stating that the agreement is confidential and would have consequences for everyone, particularly concerning the Velika Plaža area. He thanked the protesters who had shown their support.
Nimanbegu reiterated that all parliament members must be aware of the potential harm that could be caused by voting on something so unpredictable, which could damage the interests of the country and the local community. He added that President Mandić would convey this matter to the parliamentary leadership.
He further mentioned that they had contacted all parliamentary groups to ensure their concerns are heard and to request that the agreement not be discussed today. The parliamentary groups will decide when it will be addressed, but the Mayor stressed they do not want it to happen today.
Nimanbegu also noted that they are waiting for the European Commission’s opinion and called for a public debate to include expert voices on the matter.
