Qair wins Montenegro approval for 64.8 MW Momče wind farm near Podgorica

Montenegro is taking another step toward expanding its renewable energy capacity as Qair Montenegro advances plans for a new wind project in the wider Podgorica area. The government’s approval of draft urban and technical conditions moves the proposed Momče wind farm closer to development and underscores how wind and solar are increasingly shaping the country’s electricity outlook.

Draft conditions approved for Momče wind farm

The Government of Montenegro has approved draft urban and technical conditions for the Momče project, which is planned across approximately 51.6 hectares north of the capital. Preliminary documentation indicates the wind farm would comprise nine wind turbines, each rated at an installed capacity of 7.2 MW, bringing total capacity to 64.8 MW.

Building momentum for Qair’s Montenegro portfolio

The Momče development represents another milestone for Qair International’s local subsidiary as it expands a portfolio of solar and wind investments across Montenegro. Qair already has multiple active solar projects in the country, with its most advanced being the 50 MW Rudine solar power plant near Nikšić.

For Rudine, an environmental permit was secured in early 2025, followed by a grid connection agreement signed with transmission system operator CGES. Commercial operation is expected before the end of 2028.

Beyond Rudine, Qair is also preparing two additional solar projects in the Nikšić region: the Petrovići and Jabuka solar power plants, each planned at 60 MW.

What it means for Montenegro’s power mix

With draft conditions now approved for Momče, Qair’s next wind step adds to a broader build-out that includes both ongoing solar developments and additional pipeline projects. For investors and market participants, this matters because it reflects accelerating renewable deployment in Montenegro—where an expanding mix of wind and solar capacity is increasingly likely to influence how future electricity supply is structured.
