Bulgargaz seeks higher May 2026 wholesale gas price as Bulgaria’s upward trend continues
Bulgaria’s state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz has put forward a higher wholesale natural gas price for May 2026, signaling that the country’s recent upward pricing trend is continuing. The proposed level is around 35.98 euros per MWh, representing an increase of 4.99% compared with the April approved price of approximately 34.27 euros per MWh.
The April figure itself followed a rise versus March, when prices increased by 5.1%. Together, the successive month-to-month adjustments point to a steady upward path rather than a one-off jump—an important consideration for market participants tracking how quickly wholesale costs may feed through to downstream pricing.
Regulator decision and updated proposal process
While Bulgargaz has submitted its proposal, the final price for April will be confirmed by the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) on the first day of the month. KEVR’s decision will come after an updated submission from Bulgargaz that is adjusted according to current market conditions.
That updated proposal is also set to follow a public discussion held at the end of March, reflecting the regulatory process used to incorporate stakeholder input before monthly pricing is finalized.
