Plinacro and Plinovodi plan capacity boost at Rogatec interconnection to enhance Croatia–Slovenia gas flows
Strengthening cross-border gas links is increasingly central to how regional markets manage supply security and integration. In that context, Croatian operator Plinacro and Slovenian counterpart Plinovodi have agreed to expand transport capacity at the Rogatec interconnection, a move designed to improve the flow of natural gas from Croatia toward Slovenia.
Capacity expansion tied to infrastructure upgrades
The agreement outlines joint efforts to upgrade gas infrastructure and enable higher volumes of cross-border transmission. Both companies said the planned expansion is intended to reinforce supply reliability, bolster regional energy resilience, and deepen integration between interconnected gas systems across Southeastern Europe.
The project will draw partly on ongoing improvements to Croatia’s gas transmission network. Those works are intended to increase overall transport capacity and improve neighboring markets’ access to diversified gas supplies.
Potential throughput and timeline
Plinacro said the Rogatec interconnection could reach up to 170,000 cubic meters per hour once pipeline upgrades financed through Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan are completed. Key infrastructure works include the Bosiljevo–Sisak and Kozarac–Sisak pipeline sections.
Plinacro added that if upstream pressure conditions are met, the expanded capacity could become operational by the end of December—an additional step toward stronger regional energy cooperation and improved supply security across interconnected gas markets.
