Korkia wins grid approvals in Romania for 320 MW solar-plus-storage portfolio

Finnish renewable energy investor Korkia has taken a significant step in scaling its Romanian pipeline after obtaining grid connection approvals for a large solar-and-storage portfolio. The development, centered on Teleorman County, pairs substantial generation capacity with co-located batteries—an increasingly important configuration for investors seeking bankable revenue pathways as power systems integrate more variable renewables.

Alexandria portfolio: 320 MW solar and 303 MW storage

The project cluster, known as the Alexandria portfolio, totals 320 MW of solar capacity alongside 303 MW of energy storage. Korkia said the existing transmission infrastructure is sufficient to accommodate the planned output, indicating that no additional grid upgrades will be required—an element that can materially affect both timelines and cost risk.

Timeline toward connection and construction readiness

Korkia expects the Alexandria portfolio to be ready for network connection by 2028. The portfolio comprises three separate projects, each progressing toward construction readiness, which the company expects to reach by the end of 2026. By moving key milestones forward before later-stage regulatory changes take effect, the approvals may help reduce uncertainty around permitting and grid access.

Approvals under current rules before auction-based reforms

The grid approvals were granted under the current regulatory framework, shortly before planned reforms introduce competitive auctions for grid access. Securing permits at this stage can strengthen long-term viability by limiting exposure to how future auction mechanisms may price or allocate capacity.

Romanian expansion since 2024 and additional hybrid projects

Korkia entered Romania in 2024 through a partnership with Econous Green Energy to establish its local development platform. In addition to Alexandria, the company is advancing other hybrid projects in Romania that are still awaiting grid approval, including storage capacities of 268 MW and 250 MW.

The Alexandria portfolio also fits into Korkia’s broader strategy to expand across key European markets while developing large-scale integrated renewable energy and storage solutions aligned with long-term energy transition goals.
