OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure move Romania wind projects toward construction, targeting ~300 MW
Romaniaās wind pipeline is shifting from approvals to execution, with OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure confirming final investment decisions for a set of projects totaling roughly 300 MW. The move matters for investors because it signals that permitting has cleared and capital deployment is now underway, with generation expected to begin gradually in the first half of 2027.
Final investment decisions unlock construction
The companies said the developments have secured all necessary permits and are now entering the construction phase. Production is expected to ramp up over time, starting from the first half of 2027, marking a clear transition from planning to active buildout across several wind sites.
Projects tied to a 2024 partnership
The wind expansion is part of a broader partnership formed in 2024, when OMV Petrom acquired a 50% stake in a portfolio of wind assets developed through Electrocentrale BorzeČti. The cooperation is positioned as part of OMV Petromās strategy to accelerate renewable deployment and strengthen its role in the energy transition.
Where the wind farms are progressing
Within the portfolio, multiple projects are advancing. In BacÄu County, planned sites include Gura VÄii and Podu Turcului. Additional developments are also moving forward in GalaČi County, where one larger project remains subject to a later-stage final investment decision.
OMV Petrom scales renewables beyond current pipeline
Beyond these specific projects, OMV Petrom continues expanding its renewable energy portfolio with ambitions to exceed 2.5 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030 in partnership with other assets. The company currently reports more than 1,100 MW under development, with construction activities and equipment deliveries already underway across its broader project pipeline.
