ALFI and Kraftfeld Energy move ahead with 126 MW solar-plus-storage project in Romania

Romania’s push toward integrated renewable generation is gaining momentum as ALFI Green Energy Fund and Kraftfeld Energy advance a large solar-and-storage development. The companies have joined forces through PVP Cygnus to build what they describe as a flagship investment combining utility-scale solar capacity with grid-supporting battery storage.

A 126 MW solar plant paired with 200 MWh of storage

The planned facility will include a 126 MW solar power plant coupled with a 200 MWh battery storage system. By pairing generation with storage, the project is designed to support the energy transition while also contributing to grid stability—an increasingly important consideration as more variable renewables come online.

ALFI’s largest investment; Kraftfeld holds the rest

For ALFI Green Energy Fund, the venture represents its largest investment to date and a step toward expanding its footprint across the region. The fund holds a 65% majority stake in the project company, while Austria-based Kraftfeld Energy owns the remaining share.

About €90 million secured; construction underway

Financing of around €90 million has already been secured through Raiffeisen Bank International, which is acting as the financing agent. Construction is underway, and the project is expected to reach full operational capacity by early 2027.

With capital already in place and work progressing on-site, the partnership positions itself to deliver a large-scale renewable asset that links financial backing with technical execution—aiming to strengthen both long-term supply and grid resilience through battery integration.
