Voltalia’s Karavasta solar plant delivers steady output in Albania

Voltalia’s Karavasta solar power plant is showing continuity in production as Albania continues to build out its renewable generation base. The French renewable energy company reported that the 140 MW facility in southwestern Albania generated a total of 39 GWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2026, roughly in line with output recorded in the same period last year.

Operational performance and contracting structure

The Karavasta plant began producing electricity in December 2023, a milestone that supports Albania’s broader renewable energy expansion and strengthens its solar capacity. Voltalia said the project’s annual output is split evenly: half is supplied to Albania’s electricity distribution system operator OSHEE under a 15-year power purchase agreement, while the remaining half is allocated to private operators through long-term contracts.

Pipeline growth reinforces long-term positioning

Beyond Karavasta, Voltalia is expanding its footprint in Albania. In early 2024, the company launched construction of an additional 100 MW solar project in the Spitalle region. By late 2025, that project had secured a 30-year electricity generation license, extending Voltalia’s longer-term presence in the Albanian energy market.

Taken together, the stable first-quarter generation and the progress on a new licensed project underline how contracted revenue arrangements and permitting milestones can help shape investor confidence as Albania scales up solar power.
