HOPS launches CROPEX auction for 2027 power to offset Croatia’s transmission losses

Croatian electricity transmission system operator HOPS is inviting market participants to bid for electricity procurement designed to cover transmission system losses via the CROPEX trading platform. The move underscores how the country’s grid operator manages loss-related costs through periodic market-based purchasing.

Single auction covering all of 2027

HOPS will hold one auction for electricity with a delivery period from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027. The procurement covers a delivery capacity and profile of 10 MWh/h every day, running from Monday to Sunday and 24 hours per day, resulting in a total volume of 87,600 MWh.

Bidding window set for 28 April

The auction is scheduled for 28 April, with bids submitted through the CROPEX platform during the 11:00 to 12:00 window. Market participants will be able to place their offers within that timeframe.

By structuring the procurement as a single, full-year auction with a fixed daily profile, HOPS is setting clear expectations for supply during 2027 while relying on competitive bidding to source the electricity needed for loss coverage.
