Greenvolt unit moves forward on Serbia wind farm as environmental screening starts

A Greenvolt-linked developer is pushing ahead with plans for a major wind power project in central Serbia, entering a key phase of the approval process that will determine how far environmental review must go.

The company is advancing its proposal through a preliminary stage overseen by Serbia’s environmental authorities. A subsidiary of the Portuguese renewable energy group Greenvolt is working on wind power project while regulators initiate the preliminary environmental review process for the investment.

Serbian ministry launches screening to set the depth of review

Serbia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection has opened a screening procedure to establish whether the planned wind farm will need a full environmental impact assessment. The project is being developed by local firm WPP Black Mud, which operates within the broader Greenvolt Power Group.

Crni Kao and Rujiste: scale and location outlined

The proposed development—described as the Crni Kao and Rujiste wind project—is planned in the municipality of Ražanj. The site is expected to cover roughly 1,134 hectares and could host up to 25 turbines, yielding around 180 MW in total installed capacity.

If approved at the required stages, such capacity would represent a meaningful contribution to Serbia’s renewable energy capacity, adding new generation potential from wind.

Permitting outcome shapes construction timing

The current timetable suggests construction could start as early as this year. Commissioning is targeted for 2027, but both milestones depend on how permitting proceeds and what additional regulatory steps are required after the initial screening.

Developer background: WPP Black Mud under Greenvolt Power Group

WPP Black Mud was established in 2022 and is fully owned by Greenvolt Power Group, described as the Polish-based arm of Greenvolt. The company participates in renewable energy development across multiple European markets, building a portfolio that includes both wind and solar projects.
