DEPA Trade wins Bulgaria LNG tender, boosting cross-border gas links in Southeast Europe

A new cross-border gas supply deal is set to reinforce Southeast Europe’s interconnected energy network after Greek gas company DEPA Trade was named the winning bidder in an international tender organized by Bulgaria. The procurement was carried out through the Balkan Gas Hub, reflecting how regional coordination is increasingly central to meeting supply requirements.

500 GWh LNG procurement for Bulgaria

The tender sought 500 GWh of liquefied natural gas (LNG) intended to support Bulgaria’s transmission system needs. The selected LNG cargo is scheduled for delivery in early August and will be received at the Alexandroupoli FSRU, linking Bulgarian demand with infrastructure located across the border.

Cooperation highlighted by DEPA Trade

Christos Basdekis, Director of Trading at DEPA Trade, said the result reflects strong coordination among regional stakeholders and highlighted the importance of cooperation in ensuring reliable gas supply across Southeast Europe.

Regional security focus continues

With operations spanning multiple markets in Southeastern Europe, DEPA Trade said it aims to further strengthen its role in regional energy security through similar cross-border initiatives going forward.
